Plant Support Specialist, Indiana Michigan Power at American Electric Power
Justine Penix serves as the Plant Support Specialist at Indiana Michigan Power (an AEP company), where she manages environmental & FERC license compliance, and emergency action planning for six hydroelectric run-of-river facilities on the St. Joseph River in Michigan and Indiana. Although relatively new to the hydroelectric industry, with just two years of experience, Justine has worked diligently to build strong expertise in FERC license compliance and has taken on key leadership responsibilities to support her team and community partners. In her role, she leads regulatory reporting, stakeholder engagement, and preparedness initiatives that ensure the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of the company’s hydroelectric projects. With a multidisciplinary background in environmental consulting, vegetation management, and project management, Justine brings a unique perspective to hydropower operations. She has collaborated with federal and state agencies, local communities, and industry partners to balance operational needs with environmental stewardship and public safety. Justine holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Purdue University and has built her career on a foundation of natural resource management, regulatory compliance, and sustainable operations. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling.
