Vice President of Generation Engineering at Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA)
Mr. Jacoby is the senior dam safety engineer for the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA). Prior to coming to GRDA to head the hydropower generation operation in 2013, Mr. Jacoby had over 33 years of consulting engineering experience at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC - formerly W. R. Holway and Associates/The Benham Companies). Mr. Jacoby was active in the arenas of hydropower generation, dams, and transportation with emphasis in generation and heavy structures. One of his long-term clients while at SAIC was the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) where he had worked on assignments ranging from hydropower generation equipment modernization and improvements along with dam safety monitoring through independent consultant inspections and owner's engineering design projects. At the time he left SAIC to come to work full time for GRDA he left as the civil and structural engineering design manager for the SAIC Tulsa Office. After a GRDA operational reorganization in 2020, Mr. Jacoby moved from directly leading the hydropower operations area to a focus on generation engineering projects and leadership. The responsibilities include thermal engineering, hydropower engineering, dam safety and generation support. His technical background is in civil engineering with emphasis in structural and geotechnical applications. Mr. Jacoby has been involved in numerous hydropower generation improvement projects, dam inspection, analysis, design, and construction projects, dating from 1980. He has performed in varying capacities from task engineer, inspector, and lead engineer to principal designer and project manager. Mr. Jacoby's experience in structural engineering has also emphasized the field of bridge, highway, and embankment design and construction. Prior to coming to work for SAIC, Mr. Jacoby worked in a pre-professional capacity in the fields of construction, materials testing, and land surveying.
