The decision support and visualization tool enables users to estimate how much hydropower potential there is in an irrigation system.
The tool — created by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office, Idaho National Laboratory, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory — is part of an overall Irrigation Modernization initative. The concept is that, by reinvesting in the United States’ irrigation systems, we can:
— generate more renewable energy
— promote the economic well-being of farmers and rural communities
— advance environmental stewardship
— cut carbon emissions within the farm sector to aid in the work of combatting climate change
