Following the penstock failure at the Colgate hydro plant, the entire industry has been re-examining its attention to penstock reliabiilty and safety.

Topics that are "top of mind" include:

1. PFMA (Potential Failure Mode Analysis) - Identifies how the penstock can fail

2. Consequence Modeling - defines what happens if it fails (impact)

3. Penstock Protection - determines what can stop or reduce the impact

4. Emergency Action Plan (EAP) - response to the impact
