The West is no stranger to water extremes — but the swings are getting more dramatic and the consequences more complex. Prolonged drought is straining reservoir operations and constraining generation. Then, without warning, atmospheric rivers and record-breaking rainfall events overwhelm the same systems. Hydropower owners are managing infrastructure, regulatory obligations, water supply commitments, and public safety — often all at once.
This roundtable is a peer exchange for the people living this reality — operators, hydrologists, engineers, and planners who are making real-time decisions under conditions that no historical record fully anticipated. The conversation will be grounded in what is actually happening and how owners are adapting.
There is no playbook that fully covers what the West has been/is going through. This roundtable is a chance to write it together — sharing hard-won experience, practical adaptations, and honest lessons from the field.
