Visualizing Sound and Motion for Damage Detection in Hydro Systems

Presented by David Auger-Habel, GE Vernova

When you can visualize sound and motion, hidden problems become actionable insights before they become expensive endeavors.

Hydropower assets operate under constant mechanical and hydraulic stress, yet many developing issues remaining invisible until they result in forced outages or significant repairs. This demonstration will showcase how Acoustic Imaging and amplified Motion technologies can reveal what conventional inspections and the human eye often miss.

Attendees will see how these diagnostic tools can be applied to detect and visualize leaks, cavitation, vibration, structural deflection, resonance, and other hidden equipment behaviors, to enable plant owners and operators to reduce operational risk and pinpoint the potential source of problems in hydropower systems.
