Additive Manufacturing (AM) presents a significant opportunity for the hydropower industry. The technology has the potential to strengthen supply chains, enable innovative equipment designs with enhanced material and performance characteristics, and improve overall economic outcomes. However, as with any emerging technology, manufacturing processes must be refined, and industry confidence must be established before widespread adoption can occur. This event is designed to bring the hydropower community together to discuss the status of AM technology for hydropower and solicit audience feedback on industry needs.
This workshop will discuss Rapid RUNNERS, an ongoing U.S. Department of Energy-funded project focused on manufacturing a full-scale hydropower runner with the potential for field deployment. The event will also bring together representatives from utilities, equipment manufacturers, and service providers to share their perspectives on the opportunities, challenges, and key considerations associated with implementing additive manufacturing in the hydropower sector.
Attendees are encouraged to actively participate in the discussion by sharing their experiences, perspectives, and equipment needs. Feedback gathered during the workshop will help guide future Rapid RUNNERS activities and support the successful transition of additive manufacturing technologies from demonstration to industry practice.
