Matthew Burak

Matthew conducts ecological studies and investigations with a primary focus on fisheries and aquatic ecology surrounding hydropower. He has served as the technical lead in the design and implementation of fisheries and water quality surveys, fish passage studies, fish entrainment and turbine mortality, aquatic habitat assessments, and instream flow studies. He has managed successful licensing, exemption, and amendment proceedings.

In addition, he has authored numerous Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements where he assessed the environmental impacts of hydropower operations on water, fisheries, and aquatic resources (including RTE species), recommended protection, mitigation, or enhancement measures to mitigate impacts of project operations, and evaluated consistency of proposed actions in light of approved comprehensive plans. He has also conducted studies and prepared permit applications to facilitate dam removal and is consulted on fish passage and habitat enhancement projects.
