Tyler Phillips

Tyler Phillips is a Power and Energy Systems Researcher at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), where his work focuses on modeling, simulation, techno-economic analysis, and optimization of advanced energy systems. His research spans renewable energy integration, energy storage, grid resilience and stability, microgrids, and the co-optimization of generation and storage resources.

Tyler is a lead developer of several energy-system analysis and optimization tools, including AquaPV, the Hydro Flexibility Valuation Tool, and HydroBoost. His work supports the evaluation and optimization of hydropower, solar, energy storage, and hybrid energy systems, with an emphasis on improving operational flexibility, resilience, and economic performance.

Tyler holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in Computational Math, Science, and Engineering from Boise State University. Prior to joining INL in 2019, he was a lecturer in mechanical engineering at Boise State University, where he also conducted research in computational modeling and simulation.
