Clean Currents 2023

Gregory Stark

Greg joined the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in 2008 and currently serves as the Hydropower Technical Manager as well as the Water Power Grid Integration Lead. As a part of this role, he leads the Water Power Technologies Office’s Operations and Planning research area for their new HydroWIRES initiative (U.S. Department of Energy). His research interests include multi-system approaches to reducing energy use, both national and community-scale modeling and optimization, and investigating how systems (e.g., buildings and industrial processes) interact with renewable energy technologies and the electrical grid, with an interest in both the engineering and economic aspects of the challenge. His current work focuses on the design, development, and use of large-scale energy storage to make use of large amounts of renewable energy possible.
