Brennan Smith

Prior to joining HDR, Brennan Smith was a Distinguished Research Staff member in the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He also served as the manager of ORNL’s Water Power Technologies research program, overseeing the portfolio of research ORNL performs for the Water Power Technologies Office of the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr. Smith received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1992 and 1995, respectively, and has been a registered professional engineer in the State of Tennessee since 1998. Prior to joining ORNL in 2005, Dr. Smith was employed for 10 years as a technical specialist in hydropower and river operations with the Tennessee Valley Authority, conducting applied research and engineering studies of turbine and hydraulic structures performance and environmental hydraulics of regulated river systems.
