On this unique tour, you'll see firsthand the capabilities of steel forging in the United States, from steel making to finish machining. You’ll gain insight on both the steel heritage of Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas, as well as the current capabilities of steel-related manufacturing in the United States.

During the tour, you’ll get an inside look at a western Pennsylvania facility owned by North American Forgemasters (NAF). NAF is the only fully integrated manufacturer of open die forgings in the Western Hemisphere.

On this tour, you’ll see a great example of domestic manufacturing in action in the United States, which will undoubtedly lead to important discussions about manufacturing hydro facility components, such as shafts, in the United States to meet domestic supply chain requirements.

The NA Forgemasters’ facility is in New Castle, Pennsylvania (approximately a 50-minute drive north of Pittsburgh). NA Forgemasters is a 50-50 joint venture between Scot Forge and Ellwood Group, Inc.

As an open die forge facility, NAF produces billet stock, solid and hollow preforms, and custom forged shapes in sizes up to 330,000 pounds. NAF melts ingots up to 444,000 pounds to produce forgings up to 330,000 pounds. As such, this facility is the only facility in North America where products of this size are produced.
