Join Tim Welch and Kearns & West for this interactive and dynamic workshop on collaboration in divided and uncertain times. This training will incorporate elements of interest-based negotiation and conflict resolution and will address how to navigate difficult situations in public engagement.
Workshop objectives include:
• Understanding the basis of conflict and the different modes of addressing conflict.
• Developing negotiation skills, strategies, and tactics for effective participation in licensing processes (and beyond).
• Developing fundamental communication skills, strategies, and tactics for stakeholder and public engagement, including engaging effectively with stakeholders in small groups and larger public meetings.
• Gaining confidence to effectively apply these skills through interactive, role-playing exercises.
Background on the Topic
Given the current political climate, this training is more relevant than ever. Meaningful engagement does not and should not stop, but it is difficult to advance discussions in an evolving, uncertain landscape. Also, with the number of upcoming Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensings, this training could help build capacity within the hydropower community to effectively and efficiently navigate multi-party licensing and stakeholder and public engagement processes.
Developing these skills ultimately leads to better science, win-win outcomes, and long-term trust.
